Lockout

We recently saw Lockout with Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace.

Going into this movie I thought "Escape from New York".  And the movie didn't disappoint.

Guy Pearce plays Snow, your reluctant hero.  He's a government agent that gets caught up in a case of mistaken identity, charged with murder and sent to the new maximum security prison in space.

Maggie Grace plays Emilie Warnock, the presidents daughter.  She's on a tour of the prison when it gets taken over.  Turns out she's some rights activist and doesn't like the way the prison is being run, that's the reason she ends up on the prison... satellite... thing.

Effects:
In the beginning there were some cheap CG, but I was going into the movie expecting borderline cheesy.  The action was pretty good though, so that makes up for something.

Story:
The story was pretty predictable but it wasn't unwatchable.

Final Thoughts:
As long as you're not going into this movie expecting some great, thought provoking... who am I kidding, if you're seeing Lockout you're not in it for the story.  You're in it for the action.  There's plenty of shooting, explosions and killing.  Reminds me of all the great action movies of the 90s.

21 Jump Street

We saw 21 Jump Street today.  This movie is by far one of the best comedies I've seen in a while.  I haven't seen the original, but I may have to give that a try also.
Tatum and Hill make a pretty hilarious duo.  Tatum ended up being a very likeable character in the movie, and Hill is funny as always.
The plot was good for a comedy.  2 new cops suck at being a cop so they get reassigned to what I was lead to believe was a failing division at 21 jump street.  They stumble through, and in the end save the day.  There was a good scene where they poked fun at all the recycling Hollywood has been doing with movies lately also.
Definitely a light-hearted comedy.  It doesn't take itself too seriously, but isn't over the top campy either.  I'll see this one again.
